Girl in Pink Revisited

Child Portrait: Girl in Pink Revisited

PLEASE NOTE: I AM NOT CURRENTLY TAKING PORTRAIT COMMISSIONS DUE TO A BUSY YEAR AHEAD! I’ll still be creating portraits and other art (just not by commission) so please follow me either here or on Facebook. Some of my works are available for sale. Thanks!

I can produce portrait commissions from photographs supplied by you. My preferred mediums for colour portraits are soft pastels, oil paints or acrylic paint.

I take pride in producing work that will be cherished by my clients and will work as closely with you as possible to achieve your desired result.

Information on reference photographs.

The better the quality of the reference photo, the better your portrait will be! You can email me a selection of high resolution photos to choose from. You must be the owner of the photos or have authority to use them for commission purposes to avoid any infringement of copyright laws.

Tips on choosing a great photo:

  • Good variation of light and shadow: too much of either will produce a flat portrait
  • No flash photography: using a flash washes out the colours
  • Avoid photos where the subject is squinting in the sun
  • Natural or candid expression: photos where the subject is posing for the camera do not make good fine art portraits as they lack the emotion of natural expression.

** SPECIAL OFFER: For just $180 extra have a studio portrait shoot by Nicole Anderson for a fantastic reference photo! **

A word about pastel drawings

If postage is required, I will pack the portrait between two sheets of foam-board, protected by a sheet of wax paper. To protect your pastel portrait, you will need to frame the portrait behind glass with either a mat or spacers which will separate the glass of the frame from the portrait. Although you may frame your portrait yourself, I recommend that you use a professional framer. Be careful not to touch the surface of the portrait.

I use high quality papers and pastels to create my portraits. I generally use Art Spectrum, Winsor & Newton and Terry Ludwig pastels and Art Spectrum Colourfix Sanded paper (or similar), Art Spectrum Suede paper or, if I am feeling decadent, PastelMat paper ordered from the USA.

Pastel art works are as permanent and lightfast as other mediums provided that they are correctly framed. I enjoy using pastels as they combine the freshness and immediacy of drawing with the emotional impact of painting.

For more information on pastels, see:

I take all my work to Strathfield Picture Framing. This is a family-run business which offers friendly advice and a professional product. You will receive a 20% discount on their standard framing costs if you take my artwork to them for framing. Visit their site:

Commission Terms

  • I request that 35% of the agreed price be paid before work is commenced. This is not refundable as it reflects the approximate cost of materials and a small amount of my time. The balance will be payable on completion of the work. I will email you a copy of the work as I am nearing completion – or earlier if I feel that I require your input – to ensure that you are happy with the progress of the portrait.
  • Copyright in the image of the portrait remains with me. Unless otherwise agreed, I will post a copy of the completed portrait in the Gallery page of this website. I may also write a blog post on the creation of the portrait showing the work in progress.
  • You warrant that you have permission to use the reference photo you have provided to me and that creating a portrait from the reference photo is not a breach of copyright. I am not liable for any claims made by any person as a result of a breach of this warranty.
